Now in its fifth year, Making Space is a biennial performance festival, produced by tbd. dance collective, featuring a curation of choreographic works created by local, regional, and national movement artists. Often changing venues, choreographic guidelines, and structure, the purpose of this festival is to provide a platform for movement artists to present new work, explore the process of developing choreography, create connections among artists locally and cross-regionally, and offer educational workshops to foster a collective celebration of dance within our community. |

Special Mother’s Day show! 5/16: Gravy Dippers/Robert Glazer - The Blues and Classic Rock of the Gravydippers, like good gravy, has many ingredients and has simmered thru many years of gigs and musical experiences. Musical influences include Boz Scaggs, Asleep at the Wheel, Santana, the Talking Heads, Paul Simon, The Beatles, James Brown, Van Morrison, Louis Jordan, Jeff Healey, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, the Allman Brothers Band & Sly & the Family Stone. 5/23: Shastaz Blastaz - Shastaz Blastaz have provided live easy listening and dance music for restaurants, lounges, festivals, private parties, and weddings for over 20 years. The band has a repertoire of a combination of Standard/ Contemporary Jazz, as well as a collaboration of R&B, Pop, and Blues. Each member adds their own individual style to each song which gives it a Jazzy Twist! Band members include lead vocalist, Shasta Holland Simms, Mike "Spike" Nelson -lead guitar, Mark Nelson -keyboards, Charles "Chuck" St Lucas - drums, and Lyle Yates - bass. 5/30: Julie Baker Quartet - Labeled as one of the most versatile vocalists in the area, songstress Julie Baker puts her heart and soul into each and every performance. She believes that her audiences deserve to experience the best performance possible and she strives to deliver. Although she is classically trained with a degree in vocal music education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (with an emphasis on voice and theatre), Julie's vocal abilities span across a plethora of genres including Jazz, R&B, Classic Standards, Pop & Classical. Her versatility enables her to please a wide variety of audiences along with her warm crystal clear voice coupled with her animated stage presence. She attributes much of her knowledge and ability to entertain to her experience and training as a member of the Scarlet & Cream Singers while in college. It was there where she learned how to entertain and connect with an audience. She is very grateful for that training that has served her well throughout her musical career. Audience members leave Julie's performances with a smile on their face. She is in high demand as a vocalist around the area due to her reputation of delivering a quality performance that touches all who hear her. 6/6: The Worsham & Heany Duo - John Worsham, a 20 year Omaha musician, and a 25 year Nashville musician, has been playing, writing, and performing for over 50 years. His music covers pop, rock, jazz, country, and every combination in between. You’ll be sure to find something you love watching John Worsham play. Chris Heaney has been a percussionist/drummer for many Omaha bands over the past 20 years, and has been performing with Mr. Worsham for the past 10 years. 6/13: ADM - Al Anderson, Dana Leonard and Mike Deluca have been performing a great variety of music for over 50 years! Specializing in Country and Western, older style Jazz, and international tunes, they have backed up many artists over the years. Now they have come together to give you a taste of what they are so familiar with! Enjoy! 6/18: Irie Carribean Jazz - Reunion!! - The group IRIE Caribbean Jazz is planning a reunion performance. The group was very popular in mid-west during the early 90's. It was the brainchild of the Gulizia Brothers who had been performing on many yearly cruises to the Caribbean. After being to so many of the islands, they were eager to bring the various styles of Caribbean music back to the Omaha area and form a group. IRIE is an 8 piece ensemble of very talented individuals and only disbanded due to members moving to different locations. It's a wonderful coincidence that all of the members will be in the area at the same time, and everyone is excited to get the IRIE sound back together again. This excellent (IRIE) ensemble consists of a rhythm section heavily spiced with Latin percussion, a sizzling horn section and tasty vocals. The cool (IRIE) sounds of Jazz blended with the heat of island music. The imagery associated with Caribbean music comes from the brassy punctuation and syncopated percussion. In addition, the exotic nature of the authentic instruments will bring your emotions to their highest (IRIE). https://www.eventbrite.com/e/irie-reunion-show-tickets-158050243533 6/27: Michael Lyon & Friends - Michael Lyon is one of the Midwest’s most popular vocalists for the timeless standards of the modern age—swing and jazz classics made famous by the greats like Frank Sinatra and rediscovered by modern day vocalists like Michael Buble and Harry Connick, Jr. Critics have likened his voice to some of the iconic male singers of the 1950's but while he honors their style, Michael's sound is all his own. Along the way, he's been a broadcaster, actor and voice actor, and for 13 years was the local anchor for NPR's Morning Edition on KIOS, 91.5 FM, Omaha Public Radio. 7/18: Susie Thorne - A Hastings, Nebraska native, Susie Thorne was first inspired by the music of her childhood through her classically trained mother and her father, who played jazz trumpet as a sideman with baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan and vibraphonist Lionel Hampton, among others. Growing up in Nebraska, she served as her mother's choral accompanist and sang with her dad's jazz ensemble. "Music was a big part of my family, so we were always playing and singing something! But it was the melodies and rhythms of jazz that always drew me in!". Susie studied piano performance and voice at the University of Colorado at Denver, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha where she has a BA in Jazz Performance. She will say she developed her craft on the road with six-night a week gigs and overseas tours. "I was fortunate to meet many other musicians on tour which was a great learning experience!". When asked about her unique vocal style, Susie said she draws inspiration from a myriad of styles including jazz, rhythm & blues and classic pop/rock; blending them all to create her own unique sound and arrangements. "I've been told I have a bluesy quality to my voice and that I don't sound like anyone else they've heard. I think it's more a mix of everything I listened to growing up that comes out in my own personal style." 7/25 - Rat Pack Jazz - These gentlemen provide a strong vocal and guitar performance of the musical standards of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, and Nat King Cole. These wonderful classics from the golden era of song are delivered by this nationally experienced group. 8/1 - Tenor Titans - Lead by Tenor Titans Matt Wallace (Maynard Ferguson) and Jorge Nila (Dave Stryker) this crew excels at Swing and Latin Jazz.Backed by pianist Dan Cerveny, acoustic bassist Mark Luebbe and drummer Greg Ahl, this band excels at everything from Miles to Poncho Sanchez to Herbie Hancock to Sonny Rollins. 8/8 - Kim Eames - Born and raised in Omaha, Kim comes from a musical family. Inspired by her brother, Kim got her 1st guitar at age 11. At age 14, she was a vocalist in a band playing locally for 3 years. Kim hit the road as a single act playing throughout the Midwest before settling to play locally and raise a family. Kim did the John Kraft Chevrolet commercials for 16 years, and did vocals for local and national radio jingles for several years. Kim loves a great variety of music. Consequently, she enjoys playing music that ranges from the last 7 decades. She cut her 1st CD in Tennessee in 2000. Since August of 2004, in addition to her bookings, Kim has very much enjoyed working with Merrymakers (a non-profit organization) that provides 96 facilities with professional entertainment once a month at no charge to the facilities. After singing professionally for 37 years, Kim still loves performing and says, “When this becomes a job, I’ll quit!" 8/15: Cher & Gene Klosner - Omaha residents Cher & Gene Klosner, a sister-brother singer/songwriter duo, wrote their first songs as kids, and their love of music is their driving force behind everything they do, from performing concerts live and online, writing songs for commercials and film/TV/animated shorts to producing, arranging, recording, and directing choirs. Having grown up on Motown, Gershwin, Ella Fitzgerald, singer/songwriters, and Broadway musicals, Cher & Gene Klosner write and perform in genres ranging from indie-pop to the blues. 8/22: 37 Years - Tyler and Sandy provide an interesting blend of sound. Tyler’s delivery hints at Gordon Lightfoot and Cat Stevens, while on guitar he’s worthy of comparison to Chet Atkins. Sandy lends keyboards, harmony and lead vocals. This album is an eclectic collection of original ballads, which spell out a message of encouragement. |

Our local members include recording artists, composers, instrumentalists, vocalists and more... all comprising an eclectic variety of styles, including: jazz, pop, rock, indie, chamber, symphonic and many more. AND Music Performance Trust Fund Mission: To provide admission-free, live, quality music, performed by professional musicians to the public of all backgrounds throughout the United States and Canada. We seek to enrich the lives of the general public, young and old, through music and to contribute to the public’s knowledge and appreciation of music. To make music and music education an exciting experience and to expand it to every child’s life experience. This year the Music Performance Trust Fund presented over 2,000 live, admission-free musical programs. An impressive figure, although considerably lower than in previous years, due to our loss of income caused by illegal downloading and piracy. Nevertheless, the Fund remains the largest provider of free, musical programs for audiences representing every ethnic, economic, social and age group. Our music reaches deep into communities touching the lives of so many; bringing joy to the lonely in nursing homes, bittersweet memories to our vets, hope to at-risk and incarcerated young men and women and songs to children-many who have never experienced live music. Whispered Like the Wind tackles a sense of self and an ancestral sense of place. The evening's performance will begin with Dvořák's The American Quartet, selected as a compliment to the rooting in history and African American spirituals and work songs. Charles Ives' The Unanswered Question follows this and bridges styles between the Dvořák and the Gre, while also asking the greater question of “why.” Gre’s piece also features a solo cellist she brings with her on the project. Omaha Symphony's Ian Passmore conducts.
